She Came to Me Devastated. Here’s What Six Weeks of the Wrong Extensions Did to Her Hair.

This was her first time ever getting hair extensions. Ever. So there was no previous damage on her scalp, no prior extension history to blame — this was all brand new to her hair.
She went to another salon here in Tucson, excited to finally get the hair she’d been wanting. Six weeks later, she came to me devastated.
What I Saw
I’ve been doing this a long time, and I was shocked. The extensions had been sewn into her hair, way too heavy, installed improperly — definitely violating a lot of the protocols we follow with Invisible Bead Extensions® to keep the hair and scalp safe. It had literally ripped her hair out. About an inch deep, six inches long, on both sides of her head. Right side and left side. It’s the worst damage I’ve ever seen from extensions, and what made it even harder to process was the timeline — six weeks. That’s how fast this happened.
The Hair Itself
And it wasn’t just the install. The hair itself felt like it came off a Barbie doll — cheap, synthetic-feeling, nothing close to what quality human hair should feel like after only six weeks. I use my own private label hair, which lasts ten to twelve months, sometimes longer depending on the color and how well it’s cared for at home. Hers was already in terrible condition at week six. That alone tells you everything about what she was actually sold.
On top of that, it wasn’t micro-wefted extensions — it was hand-tied, and hand-tied wefts have that rough, bristly edge of hair along the seam. That edge was poking directly into her scalp the entire time she wore them, on top of the tension already pulling at the roots. So she wasn’t just dealing with weight and pulling — she was dealing with irritation from the hair itself, every single day, for six weeks straight.
I stayed composed for her, because she was already so upset. My job in that moment wasn’t to react to how bad it looked. It was to help her.

What I Told Her
I explained exactly what went wrong — the method, the installation, the tension, and the hair itself. I told her something I need everyone reading this to hear too:
Extensions didn’t ruin her hair. The method and the installation did.
I didn’t want her to walk away thinking she could never wear extensions again. That’s not true. It’s just that whoever installed hers wasn’t following safe protocol, and her hair paid the price for it.

Extensions aren’t inherently damaging. Unsafe methods are. Here’s the mechanical piece of it:
